Abis India: a fruitful collaboration thanks to technical optimisation
In Rajnandgaon, India, Abis India (part of the IB Group) wants to offer added value to society. The company does this by offering the best protein-rich food for cattle, fish, and people. Naturally, there is a need for both technology and innovation as well as high-quality raw materials. VDS Premix has been supporting Abis India with product optimisations and technical assistance in the field of sales and marketing of feed since 2015. Physical improvement of the feed pellet for shrimp
Shrimp feed must sink to the bottom as quickly as possible. It is also important that the pellet remains stable and does not fall apart for as long as possible. Abis India contacted VDS Premix with the request to improve the physical quality of the shrimp feed pellet. Part of the feed they previously used floated and fell apart too quickly once submerged.
This was the start of our fruitful collaboration. After a number of successful site visits, we made small technical interventions at the plant to improve the pellet quality.
A strong nutritional market position
In 2015, Abis India had an annual production of 5000 tonnes of shrimp feed, but various customers were not satisfied with the quality. Thanks to our optimisations, the production increased to an annual output of 30,000 to 35,000 tonnes of feed in the span of five years. Not only the physical and nutritional quality improved, the market position of Abis India grew as well.
Support and optimisation
After the successful shrimp feed project, we continued to grow together. For example, we also support Abis India with their process optimisation, nutritional issues, formulation, the search for alternative raw materials, low-cost formulation, and offer additional technical support. We value a close relationship with the people on site and strive to visit for 20 to 30 days each year. We always visit the Abis India plant, but also meet their customers at their locations and at the seminars organised by Abis India in the various provinces.
A partnership with a future
We sealed our partnership with a contract and continue to invest in optimisation. The goal is to continue to increase the sales of Abis India and to maintain the nutritional quality. We also enthusiastically strive to launch new products and introduce raw materials and additives (such as C-force) together, and to potentially expand our partnership to other products and markets.
