Sustainability at VDS Premix
Sustainable entrepreneurship has become the standard of today. At VDS Premix, we also contribute to a more sustainable society. Why? Because we do not want to exhaust our planet's supply of raw materials. Global warming continues unabated due to high CO2 emissions, but if everyone makes an effort, we can slow this process down. A substantial contribution is required by everyone, and a completely sustainable economy seems difficult to achieve at times. But does this mean that we should stop striving for sustainability? Of course not! We want to use this blog to enthusiastically set out the steps VDS Premix takes towards sustainable entrepreneurship.
Generating and using green electricity
VDS Premix made a highly targeted investment in alternative energy in December 2019. We placed a large number of solar panels on our roof. This is how we help the environment a bit, as this greatly reduces our CO2 emissions. The sun shines all day, after all, so by investing in solar panels we resolutely opt for sustainability. Solar panels are also a good choice for us as a business undertaking: they are extremely durable and require little maintenance. Also, by opting for green energy we are no longer dependant on energy suppliers. Wondering about the actual figures? At VDS Premix, we:
- have a sustainable system with a capacity of 132.24 KWP
- have 464 solar panels of 285 KWP
- generate 120,000 kWh green energy annually
- consume approximately 85,000 kWh green energy
Each year, we can independently generate approximately 30% of our overall energy consumption and supply 35,000 kWh to the grid. Now, that's what you call sustainability!
Waste separation
Separating our waste has been a must at VDS Premix for many years now! We sort all our residual production materials, such as wood, metal, paper and cardboard, as well as general waste by ourselves – as we should. You won't find any tins among our residual waste. Putting wood chips in the PMC bag is also out of the question. We also process paper waste directly in a container. There are small wheeled bins at all our workplaces, which are used by our employees to collect the various waste flows. Good for nature, and only a small effort on our part.
Reusing residual products
VDS Premix aims to reuse as many residual products as possible because we believe that a circular economy is the future. Broken pallets are repaired by an external company. On top of that, we never buy any new pallets; we opt for recycled ones instead. These are at least as strong as brand-new pallets.
Each sustainable effort matters
Each sustainable effort matters. We are very aware of this. We also try to take our own initiatives in the workplace to work in a more sustainable manner. You won't find any plastic coffee cups here, but reusable glasses and mugs instead We have numerous ideas for enhancing sustainably in the pipeline. Every little bit helps, after all!
