In 2021 it will be 55 years since VDS was founded. A true milestone, and the perfect time to look back at everything we have achieved. VDS as grown from a small family owned and operated business into a solid and flourishing company.
How it all began …
In 1966, three partners set up an animal feed factory. VDS Premix was born! However, there soon came a time when, due to intensified concentration and scale increases in the animal feed sector, VDS had to choose between growth in volume or further specialisation in smaller volumes. We chose the latter option, and have been focusing on offering our customers nutritional expertise and a comprehensive range of products and services in the animal feed sector ever since. Our custom-made preparations, investments in a strong production process and modern machine park allow us to offer our customers clear added value.
Over the years, we have developed in-depth expertise in the composition of vitamin and mineral mixtures for pigs, poultry and cattle. VDS has also developed various activities in the area of aquaculture.
Did you know that VDS briefly became DVS? There was a minor error in the issue of the Bulletin of Acts and Decrees, but this was soon rectified.
Proud of our milestones
In 1966 we set up our first production unit in Brielen. Ten years later we purchased the buildings of Voeders Cloet in Deerlijk, and relocated our production unit to this site. We are still operating at this location today. The space offered by our premises, which cover an area of roughly one hectare, enabled us to expand and ultimately achieve the success we envisioned in terms of scale.
VDS has presented itself as an international family company from the very beginning. We started out by focusing on our neighbouring countries, but several countries in Africa soon caught our eye. It was clear that agriculture was going through a period of enormous growth here, and that our expertise would be very useful on this continent. VDS has been catering to about a dozen customers in Africa ever since, and has also been expanding to the Middle East and Central Asia, reaching as far as India and Pakistan. Today, export is still one of our focal points. The most interesting opportunities for our sector are abroad, after all.
Our staff are our pride
The team of VDS Premix now consists of 25 employees, who are active both in Belgium and internationally. Our colleagues promote our values towards our customers, and help us evolve in a way that is both targeted and sustainable. Thanks to them, we have achieved enormous growth, and we are very proud of that.
